Articles of Association Apostille for the UAE

The Situation

Sending a articles of association to the UAE looks like a two-step job: notarize, then apostille. In practice there are three points where the file stops moving, and all three sit outside the Apostille stage.

the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies examine the document differently from a Chinese notary office, and the difference is what causes the returns.

What Actually Went Wrong

First stop: the charter must be the version currently filed with the market regulator, and older versions are rejected.

Second stop: the charter must be stamped by the market regulator as the filed version, not just by the company.

Third stop: The UAE runs a parallel attestation requirement, so an Apostille alone is not always treated as final.

How It Was Resolved

Work the three in order and the Apostille becomes the easy part.

Get the market supervision administration filed charter extract first. Then have the notary certify the fact rather than the copy. Then verify the name and date details against the receiving requirement. The Apostille attaches at the end and takes five to ten working days.

The UAE requires attestation by its own Ministry of Foreign Affairs even after an Apostille, and the process may need the document presented in person. That means the text of the notarization is read, not just the seal — which is why the order matters more than the effort.

The General Rule

For the UAE specifically, UAE attestation adds a stage after the Apostille that is often not planned for.

The general rule: the Apostille certifies that a signature and seal are genuine. It does not certify that the document says the right thing. Everything the receiving authority needs to be true has to be true before the seal goes on.
