Bank Statement Apostille for Overseas Business Registration in Germany
The Situation
A manufacturer in Dongguan came to us after a previous agent had withdrawn from the case, preparing an overseas branch registration for company registration in Germany.
The bank statement had been notarized and apostilled. It was then examined by the commercial registry, and the objection was not about the Apostille seal. It was about what the earlier stage had certified — the statement must be issued and stamped by the bank, and an unstamped online export cannot be notarized.
What Actually Went Wrong
German authorities require a certified translation by a translator sworn before a German court.
In this case the gap was narrower: the statement must be issued and stamped by the bank, and an unstamped online export cannot be notarized. Everything downstream was procedurally correct and substantively useless, because the receiving side needed the fact and had been given the form.
Germany rejects translations certified in China but not by a Germany-authorised translator.
How It Was Resolved
The fix ran through the stamped statement issued at the bank counter rather than through the Apostille stage. Once that record was in hand, the notarization could certify the period must cover what is required, and the balance must support the amount claimed, and the Apostille attached to it meant something.
The redo took five to ten working days at the Apostille stage on top of the time needed to retrieve the record. Because company registration can absorb some delay, the recovery fit inside the original schedule.
The General Rule
Three things decide whether a bank statement clears company registration in Germany:
One, the statement must be issued and stamped by the bank, and an unstamped online export cannot be notarized.
Two, the period must cover what is required, and the balance must support the amount claimed.
Three, German appointment slots are the real constraint.
The Apostille stage itself is the predictable part — five to ten working days, no surprises. The surprises all sit upstream and downstream of it.
Check These Before You Submit
- Confirm what the commercial registry in Germany requires, in writing, before notarizing
- Check that the notarization certifies the fact — the statement must be issued and stamped by the bank, and an unstamped online export cannot be notarized
- Verify the period must cover what is required, and the balance must support the amount claimed
- Have the stamped statement issued at the bank counter ready before the notary appointment
